Directors

Keith Alexander Morales has served as Director of Bands at Del Valle High School in the Ysleta Independent School District since 2018. He began his career at Del Valle in 2013 as Associate Director of Bands.

Under his leadership, Del Valle bands have earned consistent UIL Sweepstakes awards. The marching band has advanced to both Area and State competition, and the concert band was named a Texas 5A Honor Band finalist in 2019. The program regularly produces All-State musicians and students who advance to the UIL State Solo & Ensemble Contest. The jazz ensemble is frequently a top-three finalist at the Hanks Jazz Festival, and the small jazz combo has often won the Specialty Ensemble Award at the same event.

Mr. Morales graduated from Texas Tech University in May 2013 with bachelor’s degrees in Music Education, Trumpet Performance, and Jazz Studies. He earned a master’s degree in Trumpet Performance from the University of Texas at El Paso in May 2022.

Since the summer of 2011, he has served as an instructor at the Texas Tech Band and Orchestra Camps, teaching improvisation, assisting with jazz ensembles, presenting trumpet master classes, and conducting concert bands. He is an active clinician and adjudicator throughout the region. He currently serves as Jazz Coordinator for TMEA Region 22 and has served as clinician for the Region 22 All-Region Jazz Band, the Region 22 ATSSB Band, and multiple YISD honor and jazz ensembles. He has also adjudicated festivals for EPISD, SISD, and YISD, including band, jazz, mariachi, and solo & ensemble events.

Mr. Morales performs with the El Paso Wind Symphony, the Five Four Brass Quintet, and Mariachi Imperial. He holds memberships in TMEA, TBA, TJEA, and TMAA. He resides in El Paso with his wife, Tracy Morales, their sons Miles and Marsalis, and their daughters Ava and Claire.

Diego Calderon has served as Associate Director of Bands at Del Valle High School in the Ysleta Independent School District since 2022.

In his role, Mr. Calderon serves as the primary instructor for the marching band, where he designs the shows and writes the drill. Under his direction, the marching band has advanced to UIL Area finals. He also works extensively with the Symphonic Band, which has earned UIL Sweepstakes awards each of the past three years. In addition, Mr. Calderon designs for the Winter Guard and serves as its sponsor. He is also actively involved with the Del Valle middle school band program, supporting vertical alignment and student development across the cluster.

Mr. Calderon received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Texas at El Paso in 2021. He is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA).

Mr. Calderon resides in El Paso with his wife, Jackelyn, and their daughter, Sofia.

Shawn Morales has served as Director of Percussion at Del Valle High School in the Ysleta Independent School District since 2023.

In this role, Mr. Morales oversees the Front Ensemble and Drumline, directs percussion ensembles, and assists with concert band percussion. He also rehearses the rhythm sections for all jazz ensembles and teaches percussion across the Del Valle cluster. In addition, he writes the percussion music for the marching band show.

Under his direction, percussion ensembles and soloists regularly advance to the UIL State Solo & Ensemble Contest. His marching percussion ensemble frequently places in the top three in its class at the Eastwood Throwdown Drumline Competition, and his middle school percussion groups frequently place in the top three at the Conquer the Rhythm Percussion Festival.

Mr. Morales received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of North Texas in 2022. He is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA).

An active performer, Mr. Morales plays with Organo Ambiente and the 80s rock group Highway. He resides in El Paso with his wife, Isabella.
